Here at A Wandering Moose we will help you with arranging all your fishing excursions with the best guides the Kenai Peninsula has to offer.  When fishing with guides on the Kenai Peninsula they provide your fishing tackle. We have loaner rods during your stay if needed.*   We recommend you bring waist or chest waders, quality rain gear and warm clothing for layering. During our summer, Alaskan temperatures can reach 80 degrees but when it rains, one might feel uncomfortable unless properly dressed. We provide a fish cleaning area and freezer space to store your catch until you depart. There are charcoal grills at each cabin and one community gas grill at the cabin fire pit..... should you have the urge to "cook up" your catch.

*$100 replacement fee for broken or lost rods

Fly-out Fishing and Bear-viewing combo trips continue to be the highlight of everyones vacation. What could be better than an afternoon spent catching your limit of red salmon while watching the bears catch theirs?

!! FISH ON !!
Here at A Wandering Moose we know FISH! and we know some of the best guides in Alaska to hook you up with them!  Here are just a few of the fish caught by the folks staying with us!

KING SALMON

Known for its trophy-size Alaska King salmon, the Kenai River has two runs of these great fish. The first run begins in mid-May and the second in early July,  endng on July 31st.  On May 17, 1985, a 97 lb. Alaska king salmon was landed and still holds the current world record.  Kenai River king salmon average 30 to 60 lbs. with many in the 60 to 80 lb. Range.  The best way to fish for these magnificent fish is from a boat with a fishing guide.  The guides are experienced and know where to find the fish.  Some folks like to "try" to fish for them from the bank but landing them is another story!

RED SALMON
The Alaska Sockeye, or red salmon, is probably the most sought after fish next to the Kenai Kings.  Red Salmon provides anglers with the some of the best salmon eating, great bank fishing, and a lot of action.  There are two runs, the first in June and the other beginning in mid-July when fishing fever hits the Kenai Peninsula!  Why fight the crowds when you can enjoy fishing in solitude just steps away from the door of your private cabin?  These ocean-fresh Alaska salmon provide a lot of after-hours fun at A Wandering Moose.

SILVER SALMON
Beginning in August, the acrobatic Alaska Silver or Coho salmon will give you an Alaska fishing experience you won't soon forget! Alaska Silver salmon usually weigh between 8 and 15 pounds with trophies up to 20 pounds. These Alaska salmon are fun to catch and they are excellent eating. On even numbered years, a huge run of pink Alaska salmon arrive with the silver salmon giving fishermen enough angling action to last a lifetime.

RAINBOWS & DOLLY VARDEN TROUT
Trout fishing in the Kenai River is excellent.  August through October are great months to go after these beauties.  They feed all summer long on Salmon eggs so many grow close to 30 inches!  There are outfitters and guides on the Kenai Peninsula who offer full days of fishing for trophy trout.  We will be happy to make those arrangements for you as well.

PACIFIC HALIBUT
Pacific Halibut are abundant in Alaska.  Halibut fishing here is good May thru September with boats leaving on a Daily basis out of Homer, Deep Creek, and Anchor Point, weather permitting.  All of these are about a 1 hour drive from A Wandering Moose.  Alaska Halibut fishing trips are dependent upon the weather and seas but when these cooperate you are sure to take home halibut!

IMPORTANT TRIP PLANNING INFORMATION  Soldotna is a small community but offers everything you need.  It is located in the heart of the Kenai Peninsula and offers fine shops, large grocery stores, pharmacies, excellent restaurants and gift shops all with reasonable prices.  Because we do not serve meals many of our guests will go into town for groceries for  breakfast and packing lunches and then into Soldotna each evening for a nice dinner. However, you don’t need to leave the resort.  Many do all their cooking in their cabins and relax by the fire and enjoy the great river views.  Rental cars are a must, as you will need them for shopping, sightseeing and meeting the boats in different areas.
